Here at MCSW, we love to talk trash! We exist to promote waste reduction, recycling, and responsible waste management here in Marshall County, and we fulfill our mission by offering educational services to people of all ages.

Our services include:

  • Fun classroom presentations for kids grades K-12 that correspondence with State standards
  • Classes here at the Depot or in the community on topics such as composting, the 3 R’s, reducing household hazardous waste, and conserving natural resources
  • Talks for civic or community groups on topics related to our mission
  • A lending library of books and DVDs, including some of the latest documentaries
  • On-site tours of the Recycle Depot

Please note: This facility serves Marshall County residents only. We do not haul or dispose of residential or commercial trash.  

If you are a business, please be advised we only work with Very Small Quantity Generators. Before you load up your vehicle, please visit our business page and always call in advance before you bring us your materials. Thank you!

Items never accepted at the Recycle Depot: ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials, furniture or housewares, mattresses or box springs, bed frames, large rigid plastics (playground equipment, tubs and totes, etc.), wood materials, vinyl siding, pool covers, hot tubs, or scrap metal. Need help disposing of such items? Call us at 574-935-8618! We'd be glad to help!

Litter: Who Is Responsible?

I still get disgusted by the waste and the thoughtlessness of others. Why should the very people who do not litter get stuck cleaning up for the people who do? Doesn’t this let the perpetrators off scot-free? Aren’t we just reinforcing that no matter what the dumpers throw out, some do-gooder will come along and clean up after them?
